Statement:

Since 1992 The Gambino Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit at Schneider Children's Hospital at Long Island Jewish Medical Center has been doing valuable work in the fight against childhood cancers and other life threatening diseases. Installed over fourteen years ago, the multi-million dollar Gambino Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit is one of the most advance in New York State.

The Research Center at Schneider Children's Hospital for alternative therapy for children with ADHD has been siupported by GM&SF for the past five years. We hope that our five year $250,000 commitment to The Research Center for Alternative Therapy For Children With ADHD will make a profound difference both locally and nationally, in improving the care of children with learning and behavioral problems.

The Gambino Medical & Science Foundation has completed its two year $375,000 commitment which supported the establishment of a center for the treatment of pediatric diabetes. The Center for Childhood Diabetes provides an integrated approach to the care and treatment of diabetes. The Center brings together medical, psychological and social services. The Gambino Medical & Science Foundation has completed its two year $500,000 commitment to expand the Pediatric Epilepsy Center whose purpose is to use state of the art equipment to properly diagnose children with epilepsy and promote its prevention and advance the treatment for it. The GM&SF believes in and has supported the work through the Child Life Program at the Hospital. The Child Life Program's mission is to enrich the Hospital experience by supporting the patient and their family during what could be a traumatic experience.
