Statement:

Since 1955, the Joel Finkelstein Cancer Foundation (JFCF) has played a significant role in Long Island Jewish Medical Center’s (LIJ) search for the cure for cancer. With many battles still to be won, its membership continues to be deeply committed. Generous funding by the Foundation has been a major factor in building and equipping the Frances and Alexander Cohen Institute of Oncology. It has also been the moving force behind the JFCF Oncology Wing, the new JFCF Radiation Oncology Institute and the new JFCF Ambulatory Chemotherapy Unit. With their dedicated and expert staffs, these Institutes comprise the most advanced and comprehensive cancer care centers anywhere and include:

  • An advanced ambulatory care section, offering a full range of cancer diagnostic and treatment services. An important component is the outpatient chemotherapy and transfusion unit. An on-site laboratory and pharmacy expedite test results and delivery of medications.
  • The Radiation / Oncology department that houses the most sophisticated state-of-the-art equipment including linear accelerators, treatment simulator and high-tech computerized treatment planning and record-and-verify systems. The full range of treatment options includes brain implants, radiosurgery and the latest 3-Dimemsional treatment of prostate cancer.
  • The Comprehensive Breast Center providing diagnosis, treatment or a second opinion for breast cancer as well as education to women’s groups and community organizations throughout the metropolitan area.
  • The very latest facilities to maintain the Medical Center’s broad cancer research studies, many of which have earned prestigious federal support and international recognition. The inpatient Joel Finkelstein Foundation Oncology Wing enables cancer patients to receive individualized care in a single area with a team of oncology specialists.
